Starting weight: 276.8lbs
Today’s Scale Reading: 250.2lbs
Gain/loss: -26.6lbs

Attitude:
Today was a hard day. I haven't felt like eating for emotions in a long while...not this strong. It started because I woke up with a kinky neck and so it was stiff and I ended up with a tension headache. I also helped the kids with decluttering the toy room and it was a lesson in patience. Then we went to pick out some movies and go grocery shopping. So, just feeling stressed. I tried to make good choices, but I found myself munching on the kids' jo jo potatoes. Put a stop to that. Even now I feel like eating everything in sight. I'm working on just drinking the water. If that doesn't work, I'll go to bed and read. Once I'm in bed, I'm not going to get out of it to eat. :o)

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. HHT feeling a little better (although he did stay home from work today and that means SICK!!!)

5 things I did right:
1. blogged

I'm only one pound away from my weekend getaway!!! WOOHOO! I guess being able to workout at Curves again has helped the scale move more quickly. That and being more aware of what I've been eating...oh, yeah and the little tummy upset I had yesterday may have helped, too. LOL Went to Curves and it was locked! BUMMER!!! Oh, well, came home and put away tables and just lounged around. HHT is pretty sick with a head cold, so I'm trying to take care of him...he's pretty self-sufficient and doesn't want to put anyone out, which makes it hard to baby him. :o) I want to give kudos to Safeway. I went there to pick up some pizza and something from the deli for HHT and me and they were so helpful. I asked to see the nutritional content on their chicken salad and they went and got it for me. I have always had a great experience whenever I've been in...friendly, helpful service has been the rule!

Wow, I can't believe the weather we had today! First, it snowed for a couple of hours and we had about an inch accumulation, but as soon as it stopped, it melted. I got some cute pics, though! Then it hailed, was sunny, hailed, was sunny, hailed, was sunny, hailed then snowed again! And it's the beginning of spring break! Ok, tonight was our weekly potluck and there was some yummy, torturous food. Cornbread and honey, teriyaki chicken and lemon bars!!! So, I picked what I wanted to indulge in. I took the smallest piece of chicken and then chose to indulge in half a lemon bar...and it was so worth the carbs! Happily when I looked up the recipe that was used, I found out that half a lemon bar was only 7 carbs! Now, it doesn't sound like a lot of carbs, and it was doable in the plan, but if you saw how small a piece half a bar was, well let's just say I'm amazed still at how many carbs are in some foods! Knowledge is power!

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. being able to indulge smartly
2. HHT's warmth on cold nights
3. Friday night group - great fellowship
4. clean house
5. yummy food to choose from

5 things I did right:
1. didn't overly indulge
2. drank my water
3. cleaned the house
4. played in the snow with S
5. made vacation arrangements

1oz cheddar

Afternoon snack:

Dinner:
1 teriyaki thigh - 5 carb (guessing)
1 serving ground beef and cabbage casserole - 3 carb
sliced carrots - 3 carb
1/2 lemon bar - 7 carb

I've been doing this for 2 months!!! And I'm ahead of schedule. I figured I'd need to lose about 7.3lbs a month to reach my goal of 80lbs for the year. That would have meant I needed to be down 14.6lbs by now and this morning I was down 23 lbs. I'm 8.4lbs ahead (A WHOLE MONTH!). WOOHOO!! Very weird weather day...snow in the morning, hail in the afternoon and sun in between. I'm extremely sleepy...extremely! LOL I could close my eyes right now, but must read LOTR to B before bed.

YIKES! Now while I don't put much stock into the scale number the 1.2lb increase was enough to motivate me to watch a little more closely what I'm putting into my mouth. LOL It was amazing that by eating more veggies, I had more energy. I know I need to eat them, and I really do like them, I just don't like all the prep work involved in eating them...the cleaning, peeling, chopping, etc. Oh well, I still need to do it. It's been a busy day. I did laundry from about 8am to 8pm, watched a friend's little boy for a couple of hours, cooked dinner, folded all the laundry, put it away (which for those who know me is like amazing!), cleaned the kitchen, supervised the showers and now I'm just about ready for bed. I'm exhausted, but then I think that means it's been a great day.

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. having a washer and dryer
2. clean house
3. yummy veggies
4. shoes
5. that my neck isn't stiff anymore

Attitude:
Tried a couple of new snack recipes...won't be making those again. LOL Back to the working out today. I can tell I had some time off. LOL But it felt good to be back and moving my body again and I was able to do it all and my arm was only slightly uncomfy and that was due to the skin not being completely healed from all the tape that it endured over the last week or so. I've found another motivation for losing weight. EB (a 1st grader) came home and said that some of her friends had said that I was fat. It really bothered her...me, not so much. So I explained that it is never polite to say such things about other people, but that the fact was I am overweight so what they said was true. I told her their words didn't bother me and shouldn't bother her in the future because we both know that I am working on being a healthier me and that I won't always be "fat". I also tried to explain that everyone comes in different shapes and sizes and there is no "normal" size. It's more important to eat healthy and move our bodies so we can be healthy rather than look a certain way and worry about what others say about us.

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. HHT coming home for lunch! THANKS SWEETIE!!!!!!
2. the new chore game - 3 days of no fighting and the chores being done in 15 min.!
3. being able to work out pain free

Saw Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and my HHT enjoyed the chick flick more than I did. LOL It was a good movie, just not as funny as I thought it would be while it was funnier than he thought it would be so we decided it was all about expectations. But I definitely enjoyed Vantage Point more. Then we went to Applebees for an early dinner. Grocery shopping, the chore game and then watched The Bee Movie with the kids which was better than I thought it would be...again, expectations. Hoping this week will be better in the exercise department...no, it WILL be better! Go me!

Today I was able to go see Vantage Point. I've been owed 2 movies for a while, but between being sick and other things that have come up, we've been unable to go. Anyway, Vantage Point was a really good movie. At least I enjoyed it. It reminded me of the hidden object puzzles I play, because you're looking for something all the time. Tomorrow is Miss Pettygrew Lives for a Day. We watched Enchanted with the kiddos. We also before that had our 1st dry run of the new chore game HHT and I invented. It went surprisingly well even for B who had to decide which shoes she needed to part with and also which bed pillows needed to go. She survived. :o) They also found 2 boxes of boxed mac n cheese which they received for dinner last night. EB was lifting her hands in praise thanking the Lord above for the beautiful blue boxes. Not kidding. Oh well, they like the homemade stuff and I know they'll be better off in the long run with the healthier version. But you would have thought it was the most priceless thing in the world the way they were carrying on. LOL

I'm feeling so bloated today that I think I could float away. I think that by eating healthier, I don't feel bloated all the time like I did when I wasn't eating so good, and so when I am bloated I really notice it! Only a couple more days. Great news! The rest of that packing strip under my arm is FINALLY GONE! Now, once the incision heals all the way, I can go back to working out in full form. I'm either going to Curves in the morning or I'll be sure to walk tomorrow, because I'm done with not working out. I've only done one workout in the past week and a half, but I'm not beating myself up about it. I know it's better to let yourself heal and not risk doing further damage which will keep you out even longer. I'm speaking from experience of course. LOL B had her school conference today and then after we got the house ready for Bible study, we went to the mall. Did EB's birthday shopping and met HHT there for lunch. It was a pretty relaxing day.

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. My HHT in whose arms I can totally relax
2. friends
3. being able to spend the day with B

I just didn't feel like doing anything today. I feel a little like I'm starting to lose my resolve to continue this, but at the same time, I keep telling myself that I've lost so much (I've never lost more than 20lbs in all my life!) and it's probably just my TOM talking. So we plow through and continue. I'm looking forward to the nutrition class my Curves will be offering starting in April called the 6 week solution. I'm sure it's just an updated version of the "plan" I'm following, but it will be nice to have the added support and I'm sure I'll learn new things that will help on the journey.

Overall a good day. It was a 2hr late start so I got to sleep in. When I woke up, I was sleeping on my right side with my arm outstretched and I wasn't in pain! It felt so good to get a full night sleep! I weighed and measured at Curves today. I'll be posting those stats in another post. I took it easy and didn't do any of the arm machines and the ab machines that require arms, I just did the motion without my arms. I did double duty on the recovery squares for the machines I couldn't use, so I still got my full minutes in of a workout. Now my legs are begging my arm to heal so they don't have such a tough workout again! LOL Tried a new way of getting my water in and I didn't make it all in. I'm going to try again tomorrow, but if it doesn't work, I'm going back to my water bottles.

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. My HHT - whose willing to pull the packing strip out of my arm a 1/2 centimeter a day! ('Cause if I had to do it, it's just going to stay in there forever!)

Whew, less cravings today and the scale was kind to my overindulging yesterday. I've decided that the scale really is a lousy measure of progress...well, not of progress so much as a lousy tool for what to eat. Whenever I think I've done super good, it goes up and when I think I've done super bad, it goes down. LOL So it's a good thing that while my goal (80 in 08) is weight oriented, my true goal to get healthier doesn't hinge on the numbers...Ok, I obviously wrote that earlier in the day and spoke too soon about the cravings. I don't think I indulged as much as yesterday and I'm nipping this in the bud now, by focusing on being on track tomorrow so as not to start a downward trend. I went back to the doctor's office this afternoon for my arm...OUCH!! Without being numb, she pulled out the cloth packing strip, stuck the end of a q-tip (without cotton) into the incision area and based on how deep the hole was decided that more packing strip needed to go back in and inserted it with the end of the q-tip! Again, let me say OUCH!!!! All of that took less than a minute total, but it wasn't too much fun. I had just moved to bandaids and now I'm back to needing gauze. Oh and as an added bonus, I need to pull about 1/2 centimeter of the packing strip out each day so that it comes out completely by the end of the week. But even with all of that, my arm still feels better than it did with the cyst.

Today is a tough day. I'm pretty sure it's because my TOM is close at hand and therefore the carb cravings are hitting more strongly than they have for a very long time. I'm going to chart each and every bite of what I eat, so I can indulge wisely. Well, more wisely. Did laundry and that took about all day. LOL Played "supervisor" to the kids making sure they got their chores done. They don't like to do them for some reason. I don't know why they think they should play only. My favorite is when they say they feel like they're doing all the work and daddy and mommy don't have to do anything. We threatened to go on strike for a week. Someday it may come down to that. Any ideas on how to make kids grateful for what they have? :o)

Another lazy Sunday. Some friends came over and hung out. Played Pack Rat (a facebook application) most of the day while visiting. My arm is still sore, so I'll just see how I feel tomorrow and decide then whether I go to Curves or not. I'm sure (as I've done it before due to injury) that I can just modify how I do certain exercises or just not do them at all, but at least I can do the leg machines and get a little bit of a workout in. That's it from here!

Today was B's birthday. She went to a party for another friend and then we went to the mall for dinner and for her to look at Claires and decide what to spend her gift card on. S played in the toddler area and was very content. ET and EB got very bored. LOL Before we went, I did my homework and looked up all the eateries in the food court. My criteria was 1. if they didn't have a website, I wouldn't eat there, 2. if they didn't have nutritional info on their website, I wouldn't eat there and 3. I'd look over the nutritional info and make a list of things that I could eat and still stay within my plan. I found quite a bit of food I could eat and I felt better about having the knowledge.

As you will be able to tell, I'm posting this a day late. Went to bed too late last night to post.
Well, the pain worsened, called the doc's office and was able to get in to see the PA. The happy point of the whole visit was the weigh in. It's been a year since I was at the doctor and when the MA took my stats, she commented that I'd lost quite a bit of weight since my last visit. 22lbs! And that's really been all since starting 1/28/08. Imagine what I could have done had I been serious about this for the last year...but we won't dwell on that. :o) Now to the not so nice part...the PA was able to remove the really (at this point) infected cyst. She didn't close it as, because of the infection, wants to let it heal from the inside out. While my arm is less painful due to less pressure, it is definitely still sore. I'm just taking it easy. I did have a slight fever so think that the infection was starting to affect me more than just pain. And the bummer is that it was so infected, she said it basically disinegrated and she was only able to get half of the cyst wall. So it may come back...I'm praying it doesn't! I was so much in shock (I wasn't mentally prepared for its removal LOL) that I was pretty much an emotional wreck by the time I got home (HHT would say it's because it's close to TOM...and he'd be right LOL). My mood improved by the end of the evening. I did eat some Baja Fresh taquitos(2) and a taco. At that point, I really didn't care. I've noticed the trend lately since I've been indulging a little each day is a continued weight loss. So, I may need to count calories and carbs...I may not be getting enough calories. And I learned it's important to research the food you eat first as I would probably have chosen differently knowing how many carbs were in the taquitos!

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. HHT - such a good caretaker
2. great conversations with great friends
3. friends willing to let ET spend the night
4. having the cyst removed
5. being able to sleep

5 things I did right:
1. drank 10 glasses of water
2. went to the doctor's office
3. did 35 jumps for my challenge
4. wore my shoes

1oz cheddar cheese

Morning Snack:
1oz planters bbq peanuts - 3 carb

Lunch:
2 low carb tortillas - 8 carb
tuna fish
mayo
mustard
2 cups lettuce

Afternoon snack:

Dinner:
2 taquitos from Baja Fresh - 56 carb (this is as close a guess as I can make (based on the nutritional info listed at the site)as they don't have nutritional info for their party pack items.)
1 chicken taco from Baja Fresh - 18 carb

2 tbsp sour cream - 2 carb
fajita veggies - FREE

It was definitely not a "healthy" eating day. But I've noticed that while I'm not eating as healthy as I should be, I'm AWARE of what I'm putting in my body and I'm making conscious decisions about it. I'm no longer "blind" eating when I feel an emotion. So, that is a plus and I'm not going to beat myself up about my less than perfect food choices. All days can't be perfect, I just have to be careful not to get back into my old habits. I went to a Relay for Life meeting tonight. I'm part of the Curvaceous Cuties team. I've decided that in addition to the money I regularly donate, I'm going to donate an additional $1 per pound I lose. I'm almost up to $20. :o) (GRATUITOUS SELF-PROMOTION HERE): If you would like to sponsor me, you can do so online by clicking on the banner above! Ok, commercial over. Now back to our regularly scheduled program. :o) My arm still hurts, but I've found a few ways to lessen the pain...like don't move it. LOL I just try to keep looking at the bright side! Until tomorrow!

Ok, OUCH!!!!! Yes, I'm whining! The cyst is even bigger and more sore. I made an appointment with my doctor and the earliest she can get me in is April 14th! That's over a month! So I've been researching ways of alleviating the pain. Home remedies here we come! The good news is that there was only two machines at Curves that caused more pain. I'll just have to take those easy for a while. And on the plus side, while a little painful, this isn't some injury that will keep me from working out. As for my food, while again I didn't go over my carbs (and that is my food plan after all), I know it could have been healthier and had a little more variety. But I just didn't feel like making a whole bunch of stuff, so I kept it simple by eating pretty much the same thing at every meal. Tomorrow is another day...hopefully one with less pain!

I bought a jump rope today and tried it out. I'm joining an online challenge starting on Friday. I'm already sore, so I know it will be a good exercise for me. I used to do it for hours on end and did fancy tricks, now I can barely make it a minute at a time. :o) My arm is sore. I have a subaceous cyst in my underarm and at times it grows and feels like a pinched nerve. When I went to have it removed last year, it just disappeared. I'm definitely on the high end of my carbs for the day. We'll see how that pans out scale wise tomorrow. I've noticed that while I'm not eating anything "unhealthy", I'm paying less and less attention to what it is I'm actually eating (if that made any sense). Well, tomorrow is another day and another try at improving. :o) I only did half of the circuit at Curves tonight as my mom was feeling quite ill. So I'll go and do the other half tomorrow night. I think this was the worst eating day I've had since starting the new eating plan. And not because I ate things I shouldn't, but because I only ate 2 times and only had 3 glasses of water! Not good. What happened to start this downward trend...NOT EATING BREAKFAST! I got engrossed in something and forgot to eat breakfast. Food has so lost its hold on me, that I don't even get hungry like I did before. I feel a little bad, because I'm part of a group challenge and I didn't even score any points for the day. NOT AGAIN! Feeling much better today. Still congested, but I can totally function! YIPPEE!! Good thing, too, since I think my family is about to go naked for lack of clean laundry. :o) I was surprised to see myself in the 250s this morning. My pre-pregnancy weight with my last was 260 so it's been over 3 years since I was in the 250 range. Very exciting! I worked my butt off at Curves today. I even did...are you ready for this?...jumping jacks on some of the recovery squares! And I didn't even hear my built in applause machine (which is really just my "chest protrusions" bouncing up and down hitting my rib cage, making a clapping sound). I wasn't even winded. I just felt like I needed to up it a notch and so I did and it felt great!

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. 2 hour late start (Yippee, got to sleep in a little!)
2. HHT's kisses

Still have the cold, but I am feeling better so I believe the worst is behind me. I forced myself to eat again. I did indulge in a tiny bit of homemade mac n cheese. Just a little bit of comfort food and it was comforting. I savored every bite (which was only 3)! I'm part of a challenge at sparkpeople and so I made sure I got my 3 servings of fruits/veggies and my water in. I did not work out, though. I just didn't feel up to it. Back to it tomorrow, though.

Attitude:
Blah, blah, blah! This head cold really stinks! Hopefully it follows along my usual head cold track of being really bad for 2 days or so and then lessening in discomfort. I forced my water in (10 glasses), but I've noticed that water just doesn't taste the same when one has a cold. I also did very well on keeping on track with my eating. I didn't give in to eating anything I shouldn't and I forced myself to eat my meals. I even mustered enough energy to workout today...granted it was a half-hearted effort. I noticed that even though I was going slower on the circuit, it was one of the hardest workouts I've done since joining. Here's to hopefully feeling better tomorrow!

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. my HHT who takes very good care of me
2. decongestant
3. tv online
4. being able to still workout
5. warm blanket

1. blogged

Attitude:
Overall, I did better this weekend. I made sure I ate my breakfast and that helped keep me more on track for eating all my meals. Unfortunately, after 2 weeks of taking care of sickies, they were kind enough to share their colds with me. Ain't they sweet? It's not a bad cold, but just enough to let you know it's there and to make you feel a wee bit run down. So I decided to postpone my reward movie for next weekend (and maybe I'll earn another one and see 2!). This will be a test for me as I am really vulnerable to eating whatever is available when I don't feel good. Not so bad today, because HHT is here to help, but tomorrow if I still feel under the weather, I'm going to have to remain really strong for myself. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

5 things I’m grateful for:
1. My HHT
2. naps
3. someone cooking for me
4. someone cleaning for me
5. having a break

1. blogged

Attitude:
Well, I've earned another movie. And I'm now down to my pre-pregnancy weight from my 4th child. I've also reached the 20% mark of my goal of 80lbs IN JUST ONE MONTH! One would think I'd be super excited. And I am in a quiet unassuming way. Part of me is still frightened of what it will be like to be smaller. HHT was trying to be supportive and wanted me to visualize what a 16lb loss actually meant so he got out two 8lb weights and had me hold them. Then he said that was the weight I was no longer carrying on my body. I'd be able to exercise better, move better, etc. without the weight. And he's right. So I'm determined to shut out the voices in my head that say, "Yeah, big deal. 16lbs. You still have so very far to go. Do you really think you can make it? And what would you find if you did?" Voices, I say to you, "16lbs is a big deal. It's a fantastic start to my journey. I do think I can make it. And I don't know what I'll find at the end of this journey, but I'm willing to step out and go because I know what's here if I don't even try and that is no longer an option for me. I choose to be a healthier person!"
